Bio

Ramón was born in Vigo (Spain) and has lived in Barcelona since 2004.

He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA. He also graduated from the ESMUC (the Music college of Cataluña) and holds a degree in History and Art History from the University of Santiago de Compostela.

During the seven years he lived in the US, he studied with Gary Chaffee, Jon Hazilla, John Ramsay, Ian Froman, Kenwood Dennard, Jamey Haddad, Skip Hadden, Bob Moses, and Hal Crook.

He has received awards such as the Berklee-BMG Award, the Berklee-Zildjian “Max Roach Award,” the second prize of the Getxo International Jazz Festival and Competition (with The Abe Rábade Trio), the Mapex gold key award, the Jaç magazine critics award for the album We Sing Bill Evans (Joan Diaz trio and Silvia Perez Cruz), the “Best Live Act” and the “Best New Jazz Act 2013,” voted by the readers of the Enderrok Music Magazine (Vicens Martin´s Dream big Band with Gema Abrié).

In addition to leading his own trio TRIANGÉL with Joan Monné and Marko Lohikari, he has toured, recorded or performed with Flamenco great Miguel Poveda, Abe Rábade, Dick Oats, Mike Mossman, Charles Neville (Neville Brothers), Danilo Perez, Giovanni Hidalgo, Scott Robinson, Jim Snidero, Rick Peckham, Jason Ennis,Santi Quintáns, Joan Diaz, Rai Ferrer, José Reinoso, Perico Sambeat, Phil Wilson, Jorge Pardo, Chris Kase, David Pastor, Llibert Fortuny, Dani Nel.lo, Vicenç Solsona, Valle Giulia, Jon Robles, David Mengual, Jordi Farrés, and Gabriel Amargant.

With fellow drummer Jose Mena, Ramón has translated into Spanish the famous Lawrence Stone Stick Control (Volonte) and the four books of Gary Chaffee´s Patterns, published and distributed worldwide by Alfred Music.

Ramón exclusively uses Zildjian cymbals, Yamaha drums and Remo heads.

He has been featured in articles and interviews in publications such as Modern Drummer, Todo Percusion, Bateria Total (who elected him as one of the best drummers in Spain), Jaç, El Pais and El Mundo.

He has recorded dozens of records. Some of them are “7 mujeres” (TRIANGEL), “We Sing Bill Evans” (Joan Diaz trio plus Silvia Pérez), “Fruits Saborosos” (Vicens Martin Dream Big Band), “Belmonte” (Vicenç Solsona), and “Simetras”(Abe Rábade).

In addition to serving as a professor at the Taller de Musics of Barcelona, Ramón has given Master classes in Spain and Europe alongside Greg Bissonette, Jorge Rossy, Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, Giovanni Hidalgo and Gonzalo Rubalcaba.
In 2013, he published his book “How to interpret scores on the Drum set” (Dinsic publishing company) which was presented at several festivals, including the Tam Tam Drum Fest 2013 in Seville.
